Readin’ and ‘Ritin’ and ‘Rithmetic … Taught to the tune of the hickory stick!

The one room school house symbolizes early education in America. Children attended when and/or if they were able. High demand to maintain farms and family businesses often times pushed education into the background. A day for the children pictured here most likely consisted of chores, breakfast, school, chores, homework, supper, bed … repeat.
