Sweet memories of childhood living in Detroit. Christmas was always magical. We would drive downtown to see the Christmas decorations, view the window scenes at J.L. Hudson’s, visit Santa, and take in the magic of Christmas time in the City. Mom would usually be singing Christmas songs in her beautiful lilting voice … “City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style. In the air there’s a feeling of Christmas.”
I believe this is the only photo purchased from a visit with Santa. 1968 at Montgomery Ward. Not sure what was going through my mind, but I look a little forlorn, while my brother looks pretty darn excited. Maybe I was apprehensive of whether I had been a good girl or not that year!
Not sure exactly when I stopped visiting Santa, but I do know that it was the year I asked for “World Peace.” I can only imagine that Santa shared my sentiments during those volatile Vietnam war years.
