Memorial Day … a day of remembrance for those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. As the years pass and wars become words in history books, we tend to forget the horrific toll those events had on soldiers and their loved ones. Their lives filled with anxiety and fear, while trying to maintain some sense of normalcy in their daily lives. Whether at home or on the battlefield, each person had to come to terms with their place in history, endure personal hardships, and persevere through an unknown future.
Since the very beginning of this country, the United States of America has fought for freedom and basic human rights at home and around the world. Founded in a belief that “all men are created equal,” the battle cry for human rights has led our country to march through the wars of history in a quest to bring freedom and equality to all.
Countless men and women have given their lives in exchange for our freedom. We would do well to remember their sacrifice, to carry on the battle cry, and to cherish the freedoms we enjoy today.
